Gym Floor Refinishing Using the Water Scrub Method

For a gym floor that's worn out, there are things you can do to restore the original finish and add new life to it. Gymnasium floors are high traffic areas that often need a little work to last and stay attractive. There are various methods you can use, including the water scrub method. Read on to find out how you can use this method for your gym floor refinishing project.

** Refinishing Tip ** An unusual idea came from one magazine which showed how to make dispensers from clay which would not be a material that would automatically spring to mind. Decoration that does not cost a great is always popular so using pleasing prints or photos at strategic places can be effective without any effect on your bank balance. There is no reason to allow this room to stay dull and uninviting any longer with all the ideas and materials available today.

For safety reasons, you should first set up "Wet Floor" signs and prepare the floor. Sweep and mop the floor thoroughly to get rid of dust and dirt. When the floor is dry, you're ready to begin.

Begin by scrubbing the floor with gym floor cleaning concentrate with a scrubbing pad made from synthetic fibers. Vacuum this product up immediately with a wet vac -- do not allow it to remain on the floor. When scrubbing the floor, be sure not to use excess water as that can cause warping. Next, rinse off the floor and allow it to dry for 24 hours.

This followed by sanding the floor with 120-grit sandpaper. Vacuum all grit away, then use a tack rag at least two times on the entire floor. Remove all fine dust from the floor before continuing on with the process.

Next, it's time to apply the gym floor finish. Choose a finish that's specially designed for gymnasium floors. Use a lambs wool applicator for the best results, and use one to three coats, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly before moving on to the next one. Between coats, be sure to buff with 120-grit sander. After applying the last coat, vacuum and use a tack rag.

If you are going this far then why not add a mini fridge and drink making facility which could turn your bedroom into a the equivalent of a personally designed hotel suite. As you spend time refinishing your master bedroom in a way that reflects your lifestyle, it can be a worthwhile project and who knows, you may find yourself spending even more time in this often undervalued room.

It is advisable to allow at least three days for the floor to set before allowing traffic to resume. If you work carefully and follow all directions on the products you use, you can have a beautiful gym floor that everyone thinks is brand new.
